Paris transport union introduces three-day air pollution tickets in response to rising ozone levels

Paris – May 28, 2026: The Île-de-France region is currently affected by high ozone pollution intensified by ongoing heatwaves. To reduce environmental impact and promote the use of eco-friendly transportation, Île-de-France Mobilités has implemented temporary measures. For three days, from Thursday to Saturday, a special air pollution control ticket for public transport will be offered at 5.10 euros per day. The goal is to facilitate the use of buses, trains, and subways to reduce private car usage.

In recent days, ozone concentrations in the air have peaked, posing health risks especially to residents of the Paris metropolitan area. Experts point out that ozone’s effects are intensified during high temperatures and can cause respiratory disorders and other health problems. Children, the elderly, and people with respiratory diseases are particularly at risk.

The transportation union expects that the affordable air pollution control ticket will encourage many commuters and residents to use public transportation instead of cars, thereby reducing the region’s pollutant load and contributing to environmental protection. This measure applies to all public transport in the Paris metropolitan area.

At the same time, health authorities are calling on people to avoid strenuous outdoor exercise during heatwave days and to stay in shaded or air-conditioned places as much as possible. Currently, alert levels remain high in 17 departments of the region due to heat and air pollution, but the situation is expected to improve somewhat by Friday, with warnings being gradually lifted.

Île-de-France Mobilités is working together with environmental and health authorities to ensure residents’ safety and promote environmentally conscious behavior. Similar measures have been introduced in the past when pollutant levels rose, aiming to improve air quality. This current offering also serves as a message for sustainable mobility in the region.

In addition to reducing transportation emissions, using public green spaces such as parks and maintaining adequate hydration are recommended to mitigate heatwave effects. Authorities urge citizens to pay attention to alerts and act responsibly. Monitoring of pollution levels will continue closely, and additional protective measures will be implemented if necessary.
