Victor Wembanyama stimulates interest in reading in San Antonio

San Antonio – 06/08/2026: Amid the thrilling NBA Finals series between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks, the city of San Antonio has launched a remarkable initiative to promote a culture of reading. The San Antonio Public Library has introduced a program focused on books read by the French basketball star Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama, the 22-year-old Spurs center, has made a name for himself not only with impressive performances on the basketball court but also through his passion for literature. In interviews, he has repeatedly emphasized how important books are for his personal development. The library aims to use this passion to inspire especially young fans.

The program includes a selection of books that Wembanyama has recommended or read himself. Additionally, readings and discussions of these works are organized with participation from local authors and literary critics. The goal is to strengthen the connection between sports and culture and to open up new perspectives for the residents of San Antonio.

The response to the initiative has been extremely positive. Already in the first days after the announcement, the library recorded an increase in visitor numbers and a heightened demand for the recommended books. Young people, in particular, show great interest and take the opportunity to learn more about their idol’s literary preferences.

Besides promoting reading, Wembanyama also supports other social projects in San Antonio. He is actively involved in programs promoting education and equal opportunities and uses his popularity to cause positive changes in the community.

The connection between Wembanyama and the city of San Antonio goes far beyond basketball. His reading support initiative demonstrates how athletes can use their platform for cultural and social impact. In times dominated by digital media, this program reminds us of the value and enrichment that printed words bring.

The San Antonio Public Library plans to expand the program and organize new events dedicated to Wembanyama’s literature in the coming months. Partnerships with schools and other educational institutions are also planned to further support reading.

While the Spurs fight for the title in the NBA Finals, the city of San Antonio shows that true champions are not only on the court but also in supporting education and culture.
