After renovations, JR's "Caverne" reopens its doors on Paris's Pont-Neuf.

Paris – 16.06.2026: The monumental art installation «La Caverne du Pont-Neuf» by French artist JR has reopened after repairs due to damage caused by bad weather. The opening was originally scheduled for June 6, 2026, but had to be postponed because of damage from strong winds and rain.

«La Caverne du Pont-Neuf» is an impressive temporary installation that transforms Paris’s oldest bridge, Pont-Neuf, into a giant artificial cave. The structure consists of 80 inflatable arches and measures 120 meters in length, 20 meters in width, and reaches a height of up to 18 meters. It was made by 800 people in France and is a tribute to the wrapping of Pont-Neuf carried out by Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 1985.

The installation offers visitors an immersive experience through illuminated stone walls inspired by European caves, a soundscape created by former Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter, as well as specially designed scents from olfactory curator Sarah Bouasse. Augmented reality elements and QR codes add surreal visual effects that enrich the perception.

After the repairs, the installation was unexpectedly reopened on June 15, 2026, live on Instagram by JR himself. Visitors note a striking contrast between the illusion inside and the urban surroundings outside, emphasizing the intended moment of pause and marvel amidst the bustle of city life.

«La Caverne du Pont-Neuf» is open to the public 24/7 daily until June 28, 2026. Admission is free, and the installation invites both Parisians and tourists to experience the city in a new way.

The repair of «Caverne» was carried out quickly in order to reopen the project to visitors as soon as possible. Those responsible emphasized that the work was done with maximum attention to guest safety and the preservation of the artistic integrity of the piece.

Visitors who have already been to «Caverne» praise the successful combination of art, technology, and natural experience. The installation provides a unique opportunity to view the history and architecture of Pont-Neuf in a completely new light and to immerse oneself in JR’s artistic vision.

Those who have not yet visited «Caverne» now have the chance to see this impressive art project before dismantling, which will take place after June 28. The installation is an outstanding example of contemporary art in public space and a true highlight for art lovers and tourists.
