Paris – 09.06.2026: After the tragic death of Lianna in the department of Yvelines, Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly, demanded the immediate inclusion of the “Law Against Gender and Sexual Violence” on the parliamentary agenda. This cross-party law, supported by more than one hundred deputies, aims to implement comprehensive measures against gender and sexual violence.
Deputy Céline Thibaud-Martinez, in November 2025, together with a broad parliamentary coalition, introduced a bill containing nearly 80 articles. It is based on 140 recommendations from the “Feminist Coalition for a Comprehensive Law,” supported by numerous organizations.
Braun-Pivet emphasized that this issue goes beyond party lines and is a national priority. She called on the President of the Republic to consider the law during an extraordinary session of the National Assembly in July or September.
The bill provides, among other things, for the creation of specialized courts to handle cases of gender and sexual violence, the introduction of annual confidential conversations for children from preschool age to detect violence early, as well as a ban on professional activity for persons convicted of sexual violence in fields involving contact with minors.
Braun-Pivet stressed the urgency of quickly passing the law to honor the victims and prevent future tragedies. She emphasized that the fight against gender and sexual violence must take place at all levels.
The tragic events surrounding Lianna have prompted numerous memorial events across the country and once again sparked public discussion about attitudes toward gender and sexual violence in France. The demand for a comprehensive law reflects a broad need for effective measures to protect women and children from violence.
The upcoming parliamentary sessions will be decisive in determining whether this law will actually be passed and what specific steps will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of women and children in France.
