Death of Noah in Metz: Investigations Continue Due to Possible Homophobic Motive

Metz – 09.06.2026: Noah M., 19 years old, from Talange, died on June 2 at Mercy Hospital in Metz. This followed a violent confrontation during the night from May 29 to 30, 2026, at Place de la République. Two men, a 27-year-old uncle and his 20-year-old nephew, were arrested on June 1 and are charged with attempted murder and bodily harm with fatal consequences. A third suspect, 19 years old, was released after questioning.

The investigation is focusing, in particular, on a possible homophobic motivation for the crime. Metz prosecutor David Touvée stated that there is currently no concrete evidence. At the same time, witnesses report repeated homophobic insults directed at Noah, including terms like “pedophile” and “faggot.” The victim was allegedly targeted due to his effeminate appearance and presumed sexual orientation.

On the night of the attack, Noah met another group of young people listening to music together with his friends. After a brief verbal dispute, the situation quickly escalated into a physical fight. Noah was repeatedly struck on the head. His 21-year-old cousin, who tried to intervene, also sustained facial injuries. Noah was taken to the hospital and was found dead four days later from the sustained injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and new information may lead to adjustments in the indictment. The two main suspects, who previously had no criminal records, could face life imprisonment – depending on the outcome of the trial.

On June 2, approximately 250 people gathered in Metz at a memorial rally for Noah. The organizations Couleurs Gaies and Stop Homophobie called for this protest action against violence and discrimination towards the LGBTQIA+ community.

The organization SOS Homophobie sharply condemned this crime, calling it a “double violence” that cannot be tolerated today. It demands the official recognition of the homophobic motivation of the crime to properly honor the victim’s memory and not force victims of LGBTI-phobia to remain silent.

In an open letter to the President of the National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet, the parliamentary group La France insoumise requested a moment of silence in honor of Noah. The deputies emphasized that the Republic cannot leave Noah’s death unaddressed and reiterated that homophobia in France still poses a deadly threat.

The authorities continue their investigation to definitively clarify the circumstances of the attack and the motivation for the crime. The goal is to ensure a thorough examination of all relevant factors and provide justice for Noah.
