Tiger attack helicopters rehearse for the national holiday over Paris

Paris – July 12, 2026: Preparations for the military parade held on France’s National Day, July 14, have entered a decisive phase. An Army Aviation helicopter formation is scheduled to fly over the Champs-Élysées, including Tiger attack helicopters. These aircraft are responsible for reconnaissance, armed support, and protecting friendly forces in challenging operational environments.

According to the schedule published by the Ministry of Defence, the reconnaissance and attack formation is expected to consist of three Tigers, three Gazelles, and three Fennecs. A total of 31 aircraft from the military, National Gendarmerie, civil security, customs, and the Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) are expected to take part in the helicopter flypast. The program may change up to the day of the event.

The Tiger helicopters belong to the 1st Combat Helicopter Regiment in Phalsbourg, which will be particularly highlighted in the parade. The regiment can deploy a complete Army Aviation force and carries out missions ranging from reconnaissance and fire support to transport, medical evacuation, and support for the evacuation of French nationals abroad. During the flypast in Paris, the Tigers will be presented alongside the lighter Gazelles.

These preparations also focus on operations outside France. At the end of March 2026, Army Chief of Staff Pierre Schill announced the deployment of four Tiger helicopters to the Gulf region. Their purpose was to defend French interests and allies against a backdrop of increasing drone attacks. Media subsequently reported that these aircraft had shot down Iranian-made drones.

This mission in the Middle East should not be equated with the planned flypast in Paris. For the July 14, 2026 parade, the Ministry of Defence lists three Tigers in the helicopter formation. The figure of four refers to the deployment to the Gulf region announced in March. This clarifies the distinction between the actual operational force and the formation planned for the ceremony.

Security measures for the celebrations in Paris are also being strengthened in parallel. The Air Defence and Air Operations Command will operate special alert systems to protect the airspace above the capital. According to the Ministry of Defence, more than 6,000 soldiers and around 130 aircraft will take part in the parade, with 350 Air Force personnel specially deployed in the Paris region.

The helicopter flypast is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The planned participation of the Tigers will showcase Army Aviation capabilities and link experience gained during ongoing overseas deployments with the parade. For spectators, the flight is part of the extensive military and civilian security posture deployed around the Champs-Élysées.
