Paris – May 27, 2026: In view of the recent rise in fuel prices, the French government has introduced a special support measure for so-called “high-frequency drivers.” This measure aims to alleviate the financial burden on private vehicle users who drive long distances daily for work purposes. The newly launched online calculator allows citizens to check whether they qualify for this support, with some finding the results surprising.

The support consists of a one-time payment of 50 euros, equivalent to saving 20 cents per liter on the average fuel consumption over three months. To receive this aid, certain conditions must be met, including the applicant being a tax resident of France and being at least 16 years old by December 31, 2024. Additionally, applicants must be employees or self-employed and have a personal income not exceeding 16,880 euros in 2024.

“High-frequency drivers” are defined as those who commute at least 15 kilometers daily or drive at least 8,000 kilometers per year for work purposes. The aid targets individuals using private vehicles with internal combustion or non-rechargeable hybrid engines and having proper insurance for the vehicle.

Applications are submitted through the personal online portal on impots.gouv.fr. Eligible applicants can submit requests starting May 27, 2026. Upon approval, the aid amount will be transferred to the designated bank account within approximately ten days.

Although the conditions are clear, some users received unexpected results when using the online calculator. Some discovered that they qualified, which they had not anticipated before, while others were surprised by being ineligible. These discrepancies sparked discussions about the system’s accuracy and user-friendliness.

The government emphasizes that the online calculator is based solely on the information provided by users, and the final eligibility determination requires a detailed review. It is advised to use the calculator as a preliminary screening tool and to contact the relevant department directly if there are any doubts.
