Paris – June 23, 2026: Marc Bloch, an important historian of the 20th century and a hero of the Resistance, was today solemnly interred in the Pantheon together with his wife Simone Vidal. This honor commemorates his intellectual legacy and his courageous resistance against Nazism.
Marc Bloch, born in 1886, was a pioneer of modern historiography and co-founder of the influential journal “Annales d’histoire économique et sociale.” His works, including “La société féodale” and “L’étrange défaite,” have had a lasting impact on the field of history.
During World War II, Bloch actively participated in Resistance activities against the German occupation. In March 1944, he was arrested by the Vichy police and brutally tortured in prison, but he did not divulge any information. On June 16, 1944, he was executed by the Gestapo.

Written and directed by Hugh Nancy, the film addresses the remarkable life and dedication of Marc Bloch and his wife Simone Vidal.
