Paris – 21.06.2026: The 17-year-old student Audrey from Paris recently passed away in a tragic traffic accident. A few days earlier, she had clearly expressed her wish to donate her organs after her death – a decision her family respected. Thus, Audrey’s organs were able to save the lives of five seriously ill people. Her father, who wishes to remain anonymous, shares this moving story to highlight the importance of organ donation.
In an interview, he explained that Audrey had developed a deep awareness of the topic early on. She had thoroughly informed herself and openly communicated her wish to donate organs. The parents supported this decision, which made implementation easier in the most difficult moment.
The father stresses the necessity of openly discussing such wishes within families. Many people shy away from the topic of death and related decisions. However, these conversations are essential so that the will of the deceased is respected and lives can be saved. He appeals to everyone to clearly communicate their decision regarding organ donation to give their relatives security in an emergency.
According to the French Biomedicine Agency, about 22,000 patients in France depend on an organ transplant. However, donor organs are often lacking, so not all can be treated in time. The agency points to the importance of education and raising awareness among the population to increase willingness to donate.
Audrey’s story is unfortunately not an isolated case. Organ donations regularly save the lives of several patients. For example, there is the case of Alexis Jolivet, who died in an accident in 2015 and helped six people with his organs. From this experience, his parents founded the organization Al.é.lavie, which supports families in similar situations.
Experts emphasize that the organ donation process in France is well-structured. Nevertheless, challenges arise when the will of the deceased is unknown. Therefore, it is recommended to deal with one’s own decision early and discuss it with relatives.
Audrey’s father hopes that through his family’s openness, more people will be encouraged to engage with the topic. He advocates not to taboo organ donation since many lives can be saved through it. His daughter’s selfless act gives numerous families hope and new chances at life.
This story underlines once again the importance of understanding organ donation as part of responsible handling of life and death and communicating openly within families. Only then can it be ensured that individual will is respected and that human lives are saved as best as possible.
