This Sunday, Paris will welcome tens of thousands of fans to participate in Paris Saint-Germain’s historic official UEFA Champions League victory celebration. The Champ-de-Mars, located at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, is expected to host about 85,000 to 90,000 attendees. Entrances will open from 2 PM. Paris Saint-Germain players plan to showcase the European Champions League trophy on a specially built stage approximately 450 meters long.
The celebration takes place amid a night full of passion but also tension. Multiple riots broke out in Paris and other French cities following the final victory. The worst-affected areas include the Champs-Élysées and the surroundings of the Parc des Princes stadium.
According to authorities, a total of 780 people were arrested nationwide, including about 480 in the Paris region. Additionally, 57 security personnel were injured. The incidents involved property damage, arson, robbery, and violent actions against police including the use of fireworks.
The Paris prosecutor’s office stated that 277 people were detained by police, including 82 minors. These individuals are suspected of violent crimes, theft, and property damage.
The contrast between the sports festivities and the riots that night is striking. Although Paris Saint-Germain celebrated the club’s greatest success in history, the joy of some fans was overshadowed by the actions of a small group of violent individuals.
Despite these events, authorities insisted on holding the celebration. Paris has developed a detailed security plan for the event. Approximately 22,000 police officers and gendarmes are participating nationwide to maintain order. Large-scale traffic restrictions and public transport limitations are also in effect around the Champ-de-Mars.
In addition to the fan celebrations, the team will hold a reception at the Élysée Palace. The French capital hopes to honor the club’s sporting achievement in an orderly and grand manner.
