PSG Victory in the Champions League: Celebrations on the Champ-de-Mars and at the Parc des Princes

Paris – 05/31/2026: Following the dramatic victory of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League on May 30, 2026, against Arsenal (1-1, 4-3 after penalties), thousands of fans flooded the streets of Paris on May 31 to celebrate the second consecutive title.

Already in the afternoon, around 85,000 to 90,000 supporters had gathered on the Champ-de-Mars. The players drove past on a 450-meter-long podium against the impressive backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, presenting the coveted trophy amid great cheers. The atmosphere was filled with joy and pride, but the evening was not without incidents.

Before the official celebrations, riots broke out during the night of May 31 in Paris and other French cities. Over 400 people were arrested, and several police officers were injured. The riots were mainly concentrated on the Champs-Élysées and around the Parc des Princes, where fires were set, shops and vehicles were damaged, and attempts were made to storm a police station. Authorities strongly condemned these acts of violence, calling them “absolutely unacceptable.”

Despite these disturbances, the Interior Ministry confirmed that the planned celebrations on the Champ-de-Mars would proceed as scheduled. In the evening, the gates of Parc des Princes were opened to fans who celebrated the triumph together with the players. The atmosphere was generally peaceful and marked by great enthusiasm.

PSG’s success marks a significant moment for French top-tier football. Under the leadership of coach Luis Enrique, who has been with the club since 2023, the team increasingly emphasized unity and team spirit over individual top performances. This strategic shift led to PSG’s transformation into a stable, combative squad.

With their second consecutive title, PSG consolidates its position among Europe’s top clubs and sends a strong signal for the club’s future development and for French football as a whole. The fans’ jubilation on the streets of Paris reflected the importance of this achievement—despite the shadow cast by the nighttime riots.

The celebrations on May 31 thus offered a mix of major sporting triumph and the challenge of ensuring public safety during large crowds. The city and its authorities are tasked with better controlling future events to prevent such incidents and to allow sport to be experienced purely as a unifying force.
