PSG victory in the Champions League: Celebrations on the Champ-de-Mars and at the Parc des Princes

Paris – 31 May 2026: Following the dramatic victory of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League on 30 May 2026 against Arsenal (1-1, 4-3 on penalties), thousands of fans poured into the streets of Paris on 31 May to celebrate the second consecutive title.

As early as the afternoon, around 85,000 to 90,000 supporters had gathered at the Champ-de-Mars. The players travelled along a 450-metre-long stage against the impressive backdrop of the Eiffel Tower and presented the coveted trophy to loud cheers. The atmosphere was marked by joy and pride, but the evening was not without incidents.

Before the official celebrations, unrest occurred during the night of 31 May in Paris and other French cities. More than 400 people were arrested and several police officers were injured. The riots were concentrated mainly on the Champs-Élysées and around the Parc des Princes, where fires were set, shops and vehicles were damaged, and attempts were made to storm a police station. The authorities strongly condemned these acts of violence, calling them “completely unacceptable”.

Despite the unrest, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that the planned celebrations at the Champ-de-Mars would proceed as scheduled. In the evening, the gates of the Parc des Princes were opened for fans celebrating the triumph there together with the players. The atmosphere was largely peaceful and exuberant.

PSG’s success marks an important moment for top-level French football. Under coach Luis Enrique, who has been with the club since 2023, the team focused more on cohesion and team spirit rather than individual top performances. This strategic change led to PSG’s transformation into a stable, combative team.

With the second consecutive title, PSG strengthens its position among Europe’s top clubs and sends a strong signal for the further development of the club and French football in general. The cheers of the fans in the streets of Paris reflected the significance of this success – despite the darker side of the unrest during the night.

The celebrations on 31 May thus offered a mix of a major sporting triumph and the challenge of ensuring public safety with large crowds. The city and its authorities have a duty to better manage future events in order to prevent such incidents and allow sport to be experienced freely as a unifying force.
