Champions League Victory for PSG: Celebrations at Champs-Élysées and Parc des Princes

Paris – May 31, 2026: On May 30, 2026, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) celebrated a dramatic victory against Arsenal (1:1, penalty shootout 4:3) in the Champions League. To commemorate PSG’s second consecutive title, thousands of fans took to the streets of Paris on May 31.

In the afternoon, approximately 85,000 to 90,000 fans gathered at the Champ de Mars. The players passed along a 450-meter long stage and proudly presented the beloved trophy against the impressive backdrop of the Eiffel Tower amidst enthusiastic cheers. The atmosphere was filled with joy and pride, although disturbances occurred in the evening.

Before the official celebrations on the early morning of May 31, riots broke out in Paris and several other French cities. Over 400 people were arrested and several police officers were injured. The unrest was mainly concentrated around the Champs-Élysées and near the Parc des Princes, with fires breaking out, shops and vehicles being damaged, and attempts to storm police stations. Authorities strongly condemned these acts of violence, describing them as “absolutely unacceptable.”

Despite these disturbances, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that the planned celebrations at the Champ de Mars would proceed as scheduled. In the evening, the Parc des Princes was opened to fans where a celebration with the players took place. The atmosphere was largely peaceful and full of enthusiasm.

This success for PSG marks a significant moment in French top-tier football. Under head coach Luis Enrique, who has led the club since 2023, the team has placed greater emphasis on unity and team spirit rather than individual skills. This strategic shift has transformed PSG into a stable and tenacious team.

With their second consecutive title, PSG has strengthened its position among Europe’s elite clubs, sending a strong message about the future development of both the club and French football as a whole. The cheers of fans in the streets of Paris reflected the importance of this success — despite the dark shadow cast by the violent incidents that occurred overnight.

The celebrations on May 31 represented a blend of a huge sporting triumph and the challenge of ensuring public safety amid large crowds. The city and authorities bear responsibility for better controlling such events in the future to prevent such incidents and to allow sports to be fully experienced as a force that connects people.
