Missing Lyhanna: Large-Scale Search Operation in Gers – Suspect in Police Custody

Concern for eleven-year-old Lyhanna is growing by the hour. Since the afternoon of May 29, the girl from Fleurance in the Gers department has been missing without a trace. While emergency services are urgently searching for the child, investigations are focusing on a 41-year-old man who has now been taken into police custody.

Lyhanna was last seen around 3:05 PM near her collège. According to investigators, she was then reportedly seen in the suspect’s vehicle. During interrogation, the man stated that he later dropped the girl off at the municipal swimming pool in Fleurance. However, investigators consider his statements to be contradictory and imprecise, which is why they regard his account with great skepticism.

The public prosecutor’s office in Auch has since initiated proceedings for the kidnapping and unlawful detention of a minor under 15 years of age. This gives the case a particularly serious legal dimension. At the same time, the authorities emphasized that there is currently no indication of a voluntary runaway attempt. This possibility is deemed extremely unlikely by both the family and the investigators.

The personal surroundings of those involved are also coming into focus. According to information from the family circle, the families already knew each other. Lyhanna was reportedly friends with the daughter of the arrested man. This particular circumstance makes the disappearance even harder to understand for many residents of the small town.

Tension has prevailed in Fleurance for days. Numerous residents are following developments with growing concern. The search for the girl is ongoing without interruption. Around one hundred gendarmes are deployed. They are supported by search dogs, divers, drones, and a helicopter that is surveying the area from the air.

In addition, many citizens participated in an organized search operation. Volunteers scoured fields, wooded areas, and hard-to-reach places around Fleurance. Such solidarity is not uncommon in rural regions – but it also shows how deeply the child’s fate moves the community.

So far, however, the search has not yielded the hoped-for success. Authorities have not yet released any official clues regarding the whereabouts of the eleven-year-old. At the same time, many indications suggest that the suspect’s police custody will be extended to allow for further investigations and questioning.

Every new day without certainty increases the pressure on the investigators. For the relatives, a time between hope and despair begins – a state no one wants to experience. While the search efforts continue, attention now turns to the results of the ongoing investigations. The central question remains unchanged: Where is Lyhanna?
