PSG wins consecutive Champions League titles, Wembanyama leads the Spurs to the NBA Finals, Swiatek and Goff exit Roland Garros

Paris – May 30, 2026: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) clinched their second consecutive Champions League title on Saturday night at the Puskás Arena in Budapest. The nail-biting final against Arsenal ended in a 1-1 draw in regular time. In the subsequent penalty shootout, the French powerhouse triumphed 4-3, lifting the trophy once again. This victory makes PSG one of the few European champions to successfully defend their title.

Despite tense security conditions marked by nationwide unrest with about 900 arrests, the city of Paris enthusiastically celebrated the team. Thousands of fans gathered at the Champ de Mars to honor the players. Captain Marquinhos, coach Luis Enrique, and top scorer Ousmane Dembélé proudly raised the trophy, fueling hopes for back-to-back titles next season and potentially a third consecutive win.

In basketball, Victor Wembanyama, a native of France, drew significant attention. He led the San Antonio Spurs to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014. In Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, the Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103. Wembanyama scored 22 points and was named series MVP. He posted remarkable averages of 27.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2.7 blocks.

The Spurs will face the New York Knicks, aiming for their first NBA championship in 27 years, in the Finals. The first game of the series will take place next Wednesday at San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center.

At the French Open at Roland Garros, title contenders Iga Świątek and Coco Gauff were eliminated early. World number one Świątek from Poland lost in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 2-6) to the little-known French player Clara Burel, while American Gauff was defeated 5-7, 3-6 by 15th seed Russian Daria Kasatkina. Both showed great fighting spirit despite their losses, generating major headlines in the tennis world.

Beyond the sporting achievements, PSG’s Champions League victory also has financial implications. The prize money and revenues provide the club with financial resources exceeding the budget of several French Ligue 1 clubs.

Last weekend symbolized dramatic decisions, historic moments, and the diversity of sports, with more heated battles and titles to come.
