Finland: 27-year-old accused of sexually abusing 361 children

Helsinki – 03.06.2026: A 27-year-old man in Finland has been charged with sexually abusing 361 children between the ages of 9 and 15 via social media and distributing child pornographic material. The crimes took place between 2019 and 2022. During a house search in 2022, security services found thousands of videos and photos of children on the suspect’s mobile phone. The man contacted the children via the Snapchat platform, urged them to send photos or videos wearing little or no clothing, and demanded sexual acts. He has partially confessed.

This shocking news once again raises questions about the safety of children in the digital space. Despite strict laws to protect minors from sexual violence and safeguard their well-being, gaps still exist. A joint report by the Council of Europe and ECPAT International emphasizes the need to increase resources for identifying and supporting victims of sexual exploitation of minors, particularly among especially vulnerable groups.
