Alexander Zverev Defeats Jakub Mensik in Four Sets to Reach French Open Final

Paris – 05.06.2026: Alexander Zverev won the semifinal at the 2026 French Open and is now reaching the final of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament for the second time in his career. The German world number three secured a 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory on Friday against 20-year-old Czech Jakub Mensik. With this, Zverev advances again to the final round of Roland Garros and can aim for his first Grand Slam title.

The first set was fiercely contested. Zverev started with high intensity and secured an early break, but Mensik countered strongly. The young Czech showed brave and focused play, resulting in a balanced match with a close set. In the tiebreak, Zverev kept his nerves, winning 7-5 and taking the set lead.

In the second set, Zverev was able to assert his dominance. With precise serves and powerful groundstrokes, he controlled the game and left Mensik with few chances, winning the set clearly 6-2. This seemed to be a quick decisive moment.

However, Mensik clearly stepped up in the third set. With a bold, aggressive approach, the Czech earned early break opportunities, converted one, and played aggressively. He won the set 6-3, while Zverev showed occasional lapses in concentration.

In the crucial fourth set, Zverev regained his stability. Using a variety of shots and consistent attacking play, he put pressure on Mensik. An early break gave him the lead, which he defended with solid serving to clinch the set 6-3 and the match.

This marks Zverev’s fifth Grand Slam semifinal appearance after the 2024 French Open, 2020 US Open, and 2025 Australian Open. Previously, he narrowly missed reaching the final, but now he has a new opportunity to win his first major title.

In the final, Zverev will face the winner of the second semifinal between Italians Matteo Arnaldi and Flavio Cobolli, two promising players who have drawn attention with strong performances at this tournament. The final promises to be a high-quality encounter.

For Jakub Mensik, reaching the semifinal was a remarkable achievement and a great success in his Grand Slam debut. The 20-year-old defeated Brazilian Joao Fonseca among others during the tournament and proved he can compete at the highest level. Despite the loss to Zverev, Mensik can be very pleased with his strong showing in Paris.

The 2026 French Open once again sets standards in terms of excitement and quality in men’s tennis. With established stars like Alexander Zverev and rising talents like Mensik, Arnaldi, and Cobolli, the tournament remains an important stage for the future of the sport.
