Putin refuses the meeting with Zelenskyj

Saint Petersburg – 05.06.2026: The Russian president Vladimir Putin has rejected the invitation from his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy to a direct meeting. Zelenskyy had previously invited Putin, in an open letter, to a complete ceasefire and personal talks to end the conflict between the two countries.

At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin stated that he sees “no interest in a meeting” with Zelenskyy. He justified this by saying that such a conversation could only benefit Ukraine by stopping the advance of Russian forces.
