Anger spreads over the gendarmerie's negligence in the case of the missing Rianna

Floranse – June 8, 2026: The small town of Floranse in southern France remains in great turmoil following the mysterious disappearance of 11-year-old Rianna on May 29, 2026. At the center of the investigation is 41-year-old local man Jérôme B., who is currently in custody. With his past record recently revealed, outrage has erupted and serious questions have been raised about the gendarmerie’s conduct.

In August 2025, the mother of a 10-year-old girl living nearby filed a complaint against Jérôme B. accusing him of multiple counts of child rape. The abuse had allegedly taken place repeatedly over several months between 2024 and 2025 in the Gers region. Despite the serious nature of these accusations, the defendant was never once questioned and no investigation was conducted.

The Toulouse public prosecutor’s office only took over the case in November 2025, after the initial complaint had been filed with the Prayssac-du-Touch gendarmerie. In December of the same year, the file was transferred to the judicial authorities in Auch, and finally returned to the Lectoure gendarmerie in January 2026, yet Jérôme B. was never officially summoned.

This failure was a great disappointment to the victim’s family. The girl’s mother strongly criticized the authorities’ indifference. The daughter had already raised concerns within the family by asking suspicious questions related to sexual matters, but this did not lead to a prompt investigation.

As a result of this serious oversight, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez and Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin have ordered a comprehensive administrative investigation. Its purpose is to identify errors and negligence in how the initial child rape reports were handled. The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Legal Inspectorate and the Gendarmerie Inspectorate.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Rianna’s disappearance is also progressing rapidly. Jérôme B. was detained on June 2 on charges of abduction and deprivation of liberty of a minor. At the time of his arrest, he gave contradictory and unclear statements, further heightening tensions among investigators.

The residents of Floranse are deeply shocked by this case and are demanding a thorough clarification. “It is very shocking that such negligence occurred,” said one resident. Rianna’s family still hopes that their painful wait will soon end and that the case will be clearly resolved.

The authorities are under significant pressure to resolve the case swiftly and transparently. Further investigations will focus on identifying the reasons for delays and whether there are systemic organizational failures within the gendarmerie. This case starkly highlights the challenges involved in handling sensitive cases involving the protection of minors.
