Victor Wembanyama promotes a passion for reading in San Antonio

San Antonio – 06/08/2026: In the midst of the exciting NBA finals series between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks, the city of San Antonio has launched a remarkable initiative to promote a reading culture. The San Antonio Public Library has started a program focused on books that the French basketball champion Victor Wembanyama reads.

Wembanyama, the 22-year-old Spurs center, has distinguished himself not only for his impressive performances on the basketball court but also for his passion for literature. In various interviews, he has emphasized how important books are for his personal growth. The library aims to use this passion to inspire young fans in particular.

The program includes a selection of books that Wembanyama has previously recommended or read personally. In addition, readings and discussions about these works will be organized, involving local authors and literary critics. The goal is to strengthen the connection between sports and culture and to offer the citizens of San Antonio new perspectives.

The response to the initiative has been overwhelming. In the first days after the announcement, the library recorded an increase in visits and a growing demand for the recommended books. Especially the youth show great interest and seize the opportunity to learn more about their idol’s literary preferences.

Besides promoting reading, Wembanyama has also supported other social projects in San Antonio. He is involved in programs promoting education and equal opportunities, using his fame to generate positive changes in the community.

The connection between Wembanyama and the city of San Antonio goes beyond basketball. His initiative to promote reading shows how athletes can use their platform to give cultural and social impulses. In an era dominated by digital media, this program reminds us how valuable and enriching the written word can be.

The San Antonio Public Library plans to expand the program in the coming months and to organize further events related to Wembanyama’s literature. Furthermore, partnerships will be created with schools and other educational institutions to anchor the promotion of reading even more deeply.

While the Spurs fight for the NBA title in the finals, the city of San Antonio shows that true champions are not only found on the playing field but also in promoting education and culture.
