Paris – 09.06.2026: The French singer and actor Patrick Bruel is once again at the center of serious allegations. At the end of May and beginning of June 2026, two women filed complaints with the Nanterre prosecutor’s office alleging sexual assaults by him, dating back to the years 2000 and 2008. One of the accusers, a former Miss Alsace, accuses Bruel of raping her in April 2008. The other, a physiotherapist named Séverine, accuses him of sexually abusing her in May 2000.
The complaints were filed on May 27 and June 3, 2026, respectively. On June 8, 2026, Bruel was provisionally arrested to be questioned by the police about the allegations. The 67-year-old emphatically denies all accusations and stresses that he has never acted against the will of any person. His lawyers announced full cooperation with the investigating authorities to prove their client’s innocence.
Similar allegations against Bruel were already known in 2019, when two women filed complaints of sexual harassment and attempted rape. However, these cases were dismissed by the Nanterre prosecutor’s office at the end of 2020.
Currently, the investigations are focusing on a total of 13 alleged victims, including, besides the new accusers, television presenter Flavie Flament. Flament has long accused Bruel of raping her in 1991.
Given the seriousness of the allegations and ongoing investigations, Bruel has announced the cancellation of his planned concert tour. He wants to focus on the legal proceedings and give the people involved space without distraction from his public presence.
Reactions in France are divided. Some call for thorough clarification and support the alleged victims, while others emphasize the presumption of innocence and warn against hasty judgments. The discussion reflects the ongoing societal dialogue in France about dealing with allegations of sexual violence and protecting victims.
The investigations are still ongoing. For Bruel, whose career spans decades across both music and film, much is at stake. The coming months will decide how the justice system handles the allegations and whether further consequences will follow.
Despite the charges, Bruel’s artistic work remains present in France, but the case represents a considerable burden on his public image and private life. The justice system will now have to determine if charges will be filed and possibly if a trial will follow.
