After the death of Lyhanna, the Chairperson of the National Assembly calls for the inclusion of the "Law against Gender-Based and Sexual Violence" on the parliamentary agenda.

Paris – 09.06.2026: After the tragic death of Lyhanna in the Gers, Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly, demanded the immediate inclusion of the “Law against Gender-Based and Sexual Violence” on the parliamentary agenda. This cross-party law, supported by more than one hundred members of parliament, aims to take comprehensive measures against gender-based and sexual violence.

Member of Parliament Céline Thiébault-Martinez, together with a broad parliamentary coalition, submitted a bill in November 2025 that covers nearly 80 articles. This bill is based on 140 recommendations from the “Feminist Coalition for a Comprehensive Law,” which is supported by numerous associations.

Braun-Pivet emphasized that this issue transcends party boundaries and constitutes a national priority. She appealed to the President of the Republic to place the law on the agenda for the upcoming extraordinary session of the National Assembly in July or September.

The bill includes, among other things, the establishment of specialized courts for cases of gender-based and sexual violence, the introduction of annual confidential conversations for children starting in kindergarten to recognize early signs of violence, as well as a professional ban for persons convicted of sexual violence in professions involving contact with minors.

Braun-Pivet stressed the urgency of quickly adopting the law to do justice to the victims and prevent future tragedies. She emphasized that the fight against gender-based and sexual violence must be waged at all levels.
