Paris – 06/09/2026: After the tragic death of Lyhanna in Gers, Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly, called for the immediate inclusion of the “law against gender and sexual violence” on the parliamentary agenda. This cross-party law, supported by over one hundred deputies, aims to take comprehensive measures against gender and sexual violence.

Deputy Céline Thiébault-Martinez had presented in November 2025, together with a broad parliamentary coalition, a bill of nearly 80 articles. This is based on 140 recommendations from the “Feminist Coalition for a Comprehensive Law,” supported by numerous associations.

Braun-Pivet emphasized that this issue goes beyond party divisions and is a national priority. She urged the President of the Republic to include the law on the agenda of the next extraordinary session of the National Assembly scheduled for July or September.

The bill provides, among other things, for the creation of specialized courts for cases of gender and sexual violence, the introduction of confidential annual interviews for children starting from kindergarten to early identify situations of violence, and a professional ban for those convicted of sexual violence from working in professions involving contact with minors.

Braun-Pivet highlighted the urgency of quickly passing the law to be fair to the victims and to prevent future tragedies. She stressed that the fight against gender and sexual violence must be conducted at all levels.
