Paris in a frenzy of joy: PSG celebrates historic Champions League victory – and the Eiffel Tower celebrates along

On the evening of May 31, 2025, Paris became the stage for a truly magical spectacle. While Paris Saint-Germain made football history in Munich and Inter Milan was swept off the field with a breathtaking 5-0, the City of Love danced to the rhythm of joy – and in the middle: the Eiffel Tower shining in red and blue.

A Sea of Lights for the Triumph

Already an hour before kickoff, the landmark of the French capital transformed into a glowing monument of pride. The Iron Lady, usually shining in golden splendor, wore the club colors of PSG that evening. With every goal by the Parisians, it blinked as if cheering along – a breathtaking spectacle for thousands of fans gathered around the monumental structure.

The Trocadéro opposite became the epicenter of collective euphoria. Fireworks, chants, honking horns – the Parisians celebrated exuberantly, almost like in a trance. The city administration sent a message with the light show: Tonight, Paris belongs to football – and its team.

A Performance for the History Books

On the pitch, PSG under coach Luis Enrique delivered a performance that is hard to surpass. The young Désiré Doué, previously perceived by many more as a new talent, became the man of the evening – with two goals and a presence that overshadowed even experienced teammates. Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Senny Mayulu also got their names on the scoresheet.

A 5-0 in a Champions League final? This is not only a humiliation for Inter but a demonstration of strength – and a statement to European football. With this performance, PSG secured the last, previously missing title. Decades of investments, countless coaching changes, stars, scandals, and speculations – all culminate now in this one moment.

Paris celebrates – not without shadows

The Parc des Princes shook. 48,000 fans, watching the game on big screens, turned the fan zone into a madhouse. The pitch became a dance floor, the stands the soundscape of a collective joy ecstasy.

And there was no stopping on the Champs-Élysées either. Pyrotechnics, chants, flags – an explosive mix. But as so often, the mood occasionally turned sour. Riots, burning trash cans, damaged bus shelters. The police arrested over 130 people. The Interior Minister expressed displeasure and called for reason.

Why is such a unique victory repeatedly overshadowed by a few who lose measure and respect?

The Republic bows down

Regardless of the incidents, unity and pride prevailed in the early morning hours. President Emmanuel Macron – famously a fan of archrival Marseille – publicly praised PSG: “A glorious day for Paris! Today we are all Parisians.” A sentence that remains.

This Sunday, the Élysée will welcome the heroes from Munich. After that, an open-top bus parade will take place on the Champs-Élysées. It is likely to be the image of the summer: PSG with the trophy, carried by the applause of an entire nation.

More than just a football match

The night of May 31 was more than a sporting event. It was a cultural moment, a collective experience, an emotional peak. The Eiffel Tower – this eternally graceful symbol of the city – was not just illuminated. It was the heart of the city, beating to the rhythm of victory.

The images of that night will remain. In photo albums, in social media feeds – but above all in the minds and hearts of the people. Because those who were there know: such an experience doesn’t happen every day.
