Matthieu Pigasse Signals Readiness to Run for Presidency in 2027

Paris – 12.06.2026: Matthieu Pigasse, a well-known French investment banker and media entrepreneur, has declared his willingness to run for the 2027 presidential election representing the left, if the political left supports his candidacy. In an interview with the news agency AFP, Pigasse emphasized the necessity of a “radical left government” and a “credible project for profound transformation.” He criticized previous social-democratic strategies as insufficient and called for a stronger alignment with societal demands for fundamental change.

Pigasse, who worked in the late 1990s alongside Dominique Strauss-Kahn and Laurent Fabius for Lionel Jospin’s government, stated that the previous social-democratic approaches are no longer suitable. He opposed the “supply-side politics” pursued under Emmanuel Macron for more than ten years. Instead, he advocated for a government with a clear left-wing and ambitious political orientation.

A key element of his program is a 20 percent increase in the minimum wage, which would raise it to 1,773 euros net—a proposal that exceeds the demands of the left-wing movement “La France Insoumise.” Pigasse stressed the need to combine societal transformations with pragmatic governance, similar to what Lionel Jospin achieved in the 1990s with the introduction of universal health insurance (CMU) and the 35-hour workweek.

Although Pigasse is known as an entrepreneur, he emphasized his close connection to the left-wing movement. He criticized past political strategies and called for a united left force. In particular, he spoke critically of Raphaël Glucksmann, the centrist leader of “Place Publique,” who refuses to participate in a left-wing primary.

Besides his political and economic activities, Pigasse is also the owner of media companies such as Radio Nova and the magazine “Les Inrockuptibles,” as well as the organizer of music festivals like Rock en Seine and We Love Green. He views these cultural activities as a contribution to resisting the far-right and described his media work as a “cultural battle” in this sense.

When asked about his potential candidacy, Pigasse responded that he would only make himself available if he were desired as the unifying solution for the left. Otherwise, he intends to support with full energy whoever is chosen. He explicitly does not want to appear as yet another candidate in a fragmented left-wing landscape.

In conclusion, Pigasse underscored the importance of a united left front to win the presidential election in 2027. He called on the various currents of the left to put aside their differences and work together on a strong, unified project.
