Paris – 12.06.2026: Matthieu Pigasse, well-known French investment banker and media entrepreneur, has expressed his willingness to run for the 2027 presidential elections on behalf of the left, provided his candidacy is supported by the left-wing political parties. In an interview with the AFP news agency, Pigasse emphasized the need for a “radical left government” and a “credible project for a profound transformation.” He criticized previous social-democratic strategies as insufficient and advocated for a stronger focus on social demands for fundamental changes.
Pigasse, who in the late 1990s collaborated with Dominique Strauss-Kahn and Laurent Fabius for the government of Lionel Jospin, declared that earlier social-democratic approaches are no longer suitable. He spoke out against the “supply-side policies” that were followed for more than ten years under Emmanuel Macron. Instead, he called for a government that is clearly left-wing politically and ambitious.
An important part of his program is an increase of the minimum wage by 20 percent, raising it to 1,773 euros net – a proposal that exceeds the demands of the left-wing movement “La France Insoumise.” Pigasse emphasized the need to connect social transformations with pragmatic government policy, similar to what Lionel Jospin did in the 1990s with the introduction of universal health insurance (CMU) and the 35-hour workweek.
Although Pigasse is known as an entrepreneur, he stressed his close ties to the left-wing movement. He criticized previous political strategies and advocated for a united left force. In particular, he criticized Raphaël Glucksmann, the centrist leader of “Place Publique,” who refused to participate in a left primary.
In addition to his political and economic activities, Pigasse is also the owner of media companies such as Radio Nova and the magazine “Les Inrockuptibles” and organizer of music festivals like Rock en Seine and We Love Green. He sees these cultural activities as a contribution to resistance against the extreme right and described his media company as a “cultural struggle” in that sense.
When asked about his potential candidacy, Pigasse responded that he would only make himself available if he is desired as a unifier of the left. Otherwise, he wants to energetically support the person who is chosen. He definitely does not want to act as yet another candidate within a fragmented left landscape.
Finally, Pigasse emphasized the importance of a united left front to win the 2027 presidential election. He called on the various currents within the left to set aside their differences and work together on a strong, united project.
