Iran Denies Agreement with the US After Cancellation of Planned Airstrikes

Washington – 12.06.2026: President Donald Trump unexpectedly announced on June 11, 2026, the cancellation of the airstrikes on Iran that were planned for the same day. In a post on the platform Truth Social, he stated that talks with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been conducted and approved at the highest level, which led to the cancellation of the planned attacks.

Trump said that the “final points” had been agreed upon by all involved parties and that the “date and place of signing will be announced soon.” However, he emphasized that the US blockade of Iranian ports, which was introduced in mid-April, would remain in place until the “finalization of the transaction.”

This announcement contrasts with Trump’s previous threats to hit Iran “very hard” and take control of the country’s critical oil infrastructure. In an interview with the US network ABC, following the destruction of a US Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces, he had promised a “very strong, very powerful” response.

Despite the announcement of a “very good agreement” by Trump, the Iranian government declared that it had not yet made a final decision on signing the proposed peace treaty. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran emphasized that talks were continuing and that the leadership was carefully reviewing the conditions before making a decision.

The situation remains tense. The international community is closely monitoring developments in negotiations between the US and Iran. A peace agreement could represent a significant step toward de-escalating the already tense situation in the Middle East.

Previously, the US under Trump’s leadership had launched a large-scale airstrike campaign against Iran on June 21, 2025, targeting nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordo. This measure marked a drastic departure from the diplomatic efforts of recent years and took place alongside a military campaign by Israel. Trump described the operation as “very successful” and stated that Iran’s uranium enrichment capability had been “completely destroyed,” while threatening further, more intense strikes.

This escalation led to considerable uncertainty in the region, with the threat of Iranian retaliation and heightened geopolitical tensions, especially in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The European Union felt largely sidelined by these developments and the breach of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Despite this setback, Iran might seek to strengthen its nuclear deterrent.

While Israel welcomed the military actions, the risk of a prolonged conflict remains, one that could permanently alter regional power dynamics and challenge international law. Given the complex situation, all parties are closely watching the progress of diplomatic efforts in order to enable a lasting de-escalation.
