Washington – 12.06.2026: President Donald Trump surprisingly announced on June 11, 2026, the cancellation of the airstrikes planned for that same day against Iran. In a post on the Truth Social platform, he stated that negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran had been conducted and approved at the highest level, leading to the cancellation of the planned attacks.
Trump stated that the “endpoints” had been approved by all parties involved and that “the date and place of signing will be announced soon.” However, he emphasized that the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, established in mid-April, would remain in place until the “completion of the transaction.”
This announcement contrasts with Trump’s previous threats to hit Iran “very hard” and take control of key oil infrastructures in the country. In an interview with the U.S. network ABC, following the destruction of a U.S. Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces, he had announced a “very strong, very powerful” response.
Despite Trump’s announcement of a “very good agreement,” the Iranian government stated that it has not yet made a final decision regarding the signing of the proposed peace treaty. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran emphasized that negotiations are ongoing and that the leadership is carefully examining the conditions before making a decision.
The situation remains tense. The international community is closely watching the developments of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. A peace agreement could represent a significant step toward de-escalating the already complicated situation in the Middle East.
Previously, under Trump’s leadership, on June 21, 2025, the U.S. launched an extensive airstrike campaign against Iran, targeting nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordo. This action marked a drastic departure from diplomatic efforts of previous years and occurred alongside an Israeli military campaign. Trump described this operation as “very successful” and declared that Iran’s uranium enrichment capacity had been “completely destroyed,” while threatening more intense attacks.
This escalation generated great uncertainty in the region, with the risk of Iranian retaliation and increased geopolitical tensions, mainly in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The European Union largely felt sidelined by these events and the breakdown of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Despite this setback, Iran could attempt to strengthen its nuclear deterrence.
While Israel viewed the military actions positively, the risk of a prolonged conflict remains, which could permanently change the regional balance of power and challenge international law. Faced with this complex situation, all parties are closely monitoring the progress of diplomatic efforts to enable a lasting de-escalation.
