Washington – 12.06.2026: President Donald Trump unexpectedly announced on June 11, 2026, the cancellation of the planned airstrikes on Iran scheduled for the same day. In a message on the Truth Social platform, he said that negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran were conducted at the highest level and were approved, which led to the cancellation of the planned strikes.
Trump stated that the “final points” were agreed upon by all interested parties, and that the “date and place of signing will be announced shortly.” At the same time, he emphasized that the blockade of Iranian ports, imposed in mid-April, would remain in effect until the “transaction is completed.”
This statement contradicts Trump’s previous threats to deliver a “very harsh” strike on Iran and take control of the country’s main oil infrastructure. In an interview with the American TV channel ABC, after Iranian forces destroyed a U.S. Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz, he promised a “very strong, very powerful” response.
Despite Trump’s announcement of a “very good deal,” the Iranian government stated that it had not yet made a final decision on signing the proposed peace treaty. A Foreign Ministry representative in Tehran emphasized that negotiations are ongoing, and the leadership is carefully reviewing the terms before making a decision.
The situation remains tense. The international community is closely monitoring the progress of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. A peace agreement could be an important step towards de-escalating the already tense situation in the Middle East.
Earlier, under Trump’s leadership, the U.S. launched a large-scale campaign of airstrikes against Iran on June 21, 2025, attacking nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow. This move marked a sharp departure from diplomatic efforts of previous years and ran parallel to Israel’s military campaign. Trump called this operation “very successful,” stating that Iran’s ability to enrich uranium was “completely destroyed,” and threatened further, even more intense strikes.
This escalation caused significant uncertainty in the region, the threat of Iranian repression, and increased geopolitical tension, especially in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The European Union felt mostly powerless due to these events and the collapse of the joint nuclear agreement (JCPOA). Despite this unsuccessful phase, Iran may try to strengthen its nuclear deterrence.
While Israel has positively assessed the military actions, the risk of a prolonged conflict remains, which could significantly change the regional balance of power and undermine international law. Due to the complex situation, all parties are carefully watching further diplomatic efforts to ensure sustainable de-escalation.
