Final Farewell to Lyhanna in Fleurance

Fleurance – 06/12/2026: In the small community of Fleurance in southwestern France, hundreds of people gathered today to pay their last respects to 11-year-old Lyhanna. The student was found dead on June 4, after having disappeared on May 29. The burial took place at the local cemetery, accompanied by a moving ceremony.

The mourners, including family, friends, and numerous residents, gathered under bright sunshine. The white funeral procession arrived at the cemetery shortly after 2:30 p.m., followed by the mourners who assembled before a podium and a portrait of little Lyhanna. The blue coffin was carried by the funeral services to the grave, where only the family was able to mourn in silence.

Before the ceremony, the mourners gathered for a silent procession through the streets of Fleurance. An impressive motorcycle convoy rode through the city to commemorate the deceased student. This gesture reflected the deep bond and pain of the community.

The mayor of Fleurance, Grégory Bobbato, opened the ceremony with moving words. He described the loss of Lyhanna as a “collective mourning” and emphasized the importance of solidarity in such difficult times. His speech underlined the deep impact on the community and the desire to support the grieving family.

Lyhanna’s tragedy has not only shaken the local community but has also caused nationwide distress. Public demonstrations and silent marches, such as the one held on June 7 in Fleurance, have emphasized the demand for stronger protective measures for children and a reform of the justice system.

The investigation into Lyhanna’s death is ongoing. The main suspect, Jérôme B., a 41-year-old man from the neighboring region, was arrested and denies the allegations. He had previously been reported for multiple cases of child abuse, without any investigations initiated, leading to heavy criticism of the responsible authorities.

Amid the mourning and pain, the memory of Lyhanna remains alive. She is described as a “little chatterbox” with “legendary naturalness,” who always had a smile on her lips and enriched the lives of those around her.

Lyhanna’s burial in Fleurance was a moving moment of farewell and shared grief. She leaves a void in the community that will be difficult to fill. Yet the strength and unity of the people of Fleurance will help preserve her memory and support her family in this difficult time.
