The exhibition, originally displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London from May 2024 to January 2025, was specially designed for the spaces of the Jeu de Paume. Among the photographers presented are renowned names such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Diane Arbus, Irving Penn, Ai Weiwei, and Nan Goldin. The latter is represented with a monumental installation of 149 photographs from her series “Thanksgiving.”

Sir Elton John began collecting photographs in 1991 and shares this passion with his husband David Furnish. Their collection spans the 20th and 21st centuries and includes works that are considered groundbreaking in the history of photography. The exhibition “Fragile Beauty” celebrates over three decades of collecting and reflects the personal taste as well as the unique perspective of the two collectors.

The photographs were carefully selected to explore the connection between strength and vulnerability in human nature. They tell stories about the complexity of life and the diversity of human experiences. Visitors can look forward to a visual journey through the development of modern and contemporary photography, which is both aesthetically appealing and profound.
