Chassieu – 06/13/2026: More than two decades after the violent death of Christiane Commeau near Lyon, there are new developments in the case. The 54-year-old woman disappeared without a trace in October 2004 from her apartment in Chassieu. It was not until February 2005 that her body was found in a forest near Niévroz, Ain department. Investigations showed that she had been murdered by two shots to the neck. Despite extensive investigations, the perpetrator and motive remained unknown for a long time.
At the end of 2025, two women in Voiron, about 70 kilometers from Chassieu, received anonymous letters. The shipments contained fragments of novels from the “San-Antonio” series, accompanied by handwritten notes referencing important dates and events in Christiane Commeau’s life. For example, one of the messages said: “What are you doing this Monday, September 30?” These clues raised suspicions with authorities that the sender had personal information about the victim.
Based on these new clues, the Paris prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, which has a special section for unsolved cases, reopened the Cold Case in autumn 2025. The case had previously been closed in 2015. Investigators now hope to identify the perpetrator with the new information.
In June 2026, the case was once again publicized on television: in the program “Appel à témoins” on M6, viewers were called upon to provide relevant clues to help clarify the murder of Christiane Commeau. Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that the anonymous letters suggested a connection between the sender and the victim.
Christiane Commeau’s family expressed relief at the reopening of the investigation. For years, they have demanded clarity and a just resolution of the case. The relatives are appealing to the public to provide information and thus contribute to solving the crime.
Despite the long time elapsed and the difficulty of the investigations, the murder is still considered unsolved. Investigators continue to rely on public assistance and possible new clues to shed light on this mystery. The Christiane Commeau case remains a central issue for French justice and the affected families.
The role of the anonymous letters with literary references represents an unusual aspect that has rekindled public interest in the case. Whether these clues will actually lead to identifying the perpetrator will be known in the coming months.
