The Christiane Komo Case: Anonymous Letter Prompts Reopening of Investigation

Sassiou, June 13, 2026 — More than twenty years after Christiana Como was violently killed near Lyon, there are new developments in the case. The 54-year-old woman mysteriously disappeared in October 2004 at her residence in Sassiou. It was not until February 2005 that her body was found in a forest near Nievroz in the department of Ain. Investigations revealed that she was shot twice in the neck. Despite extensive investigations, the perpetrator and motive remained unknown for a long time.

At the end of 2025, in the town of Valonne about 70 kilometres from Sassiou, two women received anonymous letters. The letters contained excerpts from the “Saint Anthony” series of novels and included handwritten notes referencing important dates and events in Christiana Como’s life. For example, one note read: “What are you doing this Monday, September 30th?” These clues led the police to suspect that the sender had personal information about the victim.

Based on these new clues, the Special Department for Unsolved Cases of the Paris Prosecutor’s Office, based in Sainte, reopened the investigation of this cold case in the autumn of 2025. The case had previously been closed in 2015. Investigators now hope that with the new information they can identify a suspect.

In June 2026, the case was again made public through the television program “Appel à témoins” (Witness Appeal) on channel M6, calling on viewers to provide relevant clues to help solve Christiana Como’s death. The possible connection between the anonymous letters and the victim became a key focus.

The family of Christiana Como expressed relief at the reopening of the investigation. For years, they have been calling for the truth of the case to be revealed and for justice to be served. The family urged the public to provide information to help move the case towards resolution.

Despite the long wait and difficult investigation, the murder remains unsolved to this day. Investigators continue to rely on public assistance and potential new leads in an effort to uncover the truth behind this strange case. The Christiana Como case remains a focus of attention for the French judiciary and the victim’s family.

The special nature of the literary quotations in the anonymous letters has brought an unusual aspect to the case, reigniting public interest. The coming months will test whether these clues can truly help identify the perpetrator.
