G7 Summit in Évian: Focus on Security Measures and Iran Agreement

Évian-les-Bains – 15.06.2026: From June 15 to 17, 2026, the leaders of the seven leading industrial countries will meet for the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, France. Amid international tensions, the U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to discuss important global conflicts together with other heads of state and government, including the situation in the Middle East and the reassessment of relations with Iran.

Due to the importance of the summit, French and Swiss authorities have implemented extensive security measures. In total, around 16,000 security personnel have been mobilized, including about 10,000 police officers responsible for investigation, crime prevention, and ensuring public safety. Access is controlled with QR codes, and strict access restrictions apply within a security perimeter of 1,670 square kilometers. The high security level is primarily intended to prevent possible sabotage actions, cyberattacks, and unrest feared as a result of the tense political situation.

Already on June 14, tens of thousands of people demonstrated in Geneva for peace and global justice. While the majority of protesters remained peaceful, a group of about 600 activists from the so-called Black Bloc caused riots. These escalated when the demonstrators set a vehicle on fire and damaged windows of a bank building. Police used tear gas and water cannons to contain the unrest.

An important topic on the agenda is the recently agreed accord between the U.S. and Iran, aiming for de-escalation of diplomatic tensions and particularly limiting Iranian nuclear activities. This agreement has been mediated by Pakistan, with planned technical discussions within the next 60 days, the details of which are not yet known. European leaders are following developments with cautious optimism.

President Trump approaches the summit with renewed energy after receiving criticism in the past for the lack of coordination with allies. The international community awaits concrete progress in multiple crises, among them the conflict in Ukraine and confrontations in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, global challenges such as the regulation of artificial intelligence and economic stability issues are central during the discussions.

The security situation is still considered tense as further demonstrations are expected. Authorities in France and Switzerland are working closely together to ensure the safety of summit participants and the public.

The G7 summit in Évian forms an important platform where the leading industrial countries coordinate their strategies to address the most urgent global problems. The outcomes of the talks are eagerly awaited worldwide, as they potentially have far-reaching political and economic consequences.
