Evian-les-Bains – 15.06.2026: From June 15 to 17, 2026, the leaders of seven leading industrial countries will gather for the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France. Against the backdrop of international tension, the arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump is expected, who, together with other heads of state and government, will discuss important global conflicts, including the situation in the Middle East and the reassessment of relations with Iran.
Due to the significance of the summit, French and Swiss authorities have implemented extensive security measures. In total, about 16,000 security personnel have been mobilized, including approximately 10,000 police officers responsible for investigation, crime fighting, and ensuring public safety. Entry is controlled using QR codes, and strict access restrictions have been imposed in the safety zone covering an area of 1,670 square kilometers. The high level of security aims to respond to potential sabotage, cyberattacks, and riots expected due to the tense political situation.
Already on June 14 in Geneva, tens of thousands of people protested for peace and global justice. Although most of the protesters remained peaceful, a group of about 600 activists of the so-called Black Bloc provoked riots. The situation escalated when demonstrators set a vehicle on fire and smashed the windows of a bank building. Police used tear gas and water cannons to control the situation.
A special topic on the agenda was the recent agreement between the U.S. and Iran aimed at de-escalating diplomatic tensions and, in particular, limiting Iran’s nuclear activities. Pakistan mediated this agreement, with technical negotiations planned over the next 60 days, the details of which have not yet been disclosed. European leaders are watching the developments with cautious optimism.
U.S. President Trump approached the summit with renewed enthusiasm after previously being criticized for a lack of coordination with allies. The international community expects concrete results on several crises, including the conflict in Ukraine and clashes in the Gaza Strip. In addition, global challenges such as regulating artificial intelligence and issues of economic stability are in focus.
The security situation remains tense due to anticipated additional protests. French and Swiss authorities are working closely to ensure the safety of summit participants and the population.
The G7 summit in Evian is an important platform where leading industrial countries coordinate their strategies to address the most pressing global issues. The results of the negotiations are expected worldwide with high tension, as they may have far-reaching political and economic consequences.
