Jordan Bardella and Maria Carolina de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles: Controversy Over Monaco Visit

Paris – 16.06.2026: On June 7, 2026, Jordan Bardella, president of the French Rassemblement National (RN), appeared with his partner Maria Carolina de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles at the Monaco Grand Prix. The two were photographed in the VIP boxes, which caused a stir in the media and tensions within the party. At the same time, a memorial event was held in France’s Gers department for the deceased Lyhanna, attended by numerous members of the political left and locals.

Several RN members reacted angrily to Bardella’s attendance at such a lavish event. Critics called the images “the pinnacle of bling-bling,” as they contrasted with Bardella’s usual portrayal as a representative of the “forgotten people” and social critic. They accused him of undermining the party’s social message and appearing inconsistent through his behavior.

Jordan Bardella defended his decision by emphasizing that personal matters and political obligations must be clearly separated. He stressed that memorial events occur daily and that his visit to the Monaco Grand Prix did not constitute a political statement. His relationship with Maria Carolina de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles, a wealthy Italian heiress and well-known figure in high society, had already become public in January 2026 when the couple appeared together at an event at the Paris Grand Palais.

This connection to a prominent noble family had already sparked discussions beforehand. Many observers see it as a break from Bardella’s role as a voice for the lower social classes and his political agenda, which often targets elites. Within the party, there are differing views: while some emphasize Bardella’s personal freedom and the separation between private and political life, others are concerned about potential alienation of the electorate.

Despite the criticism, Bardella remains an influential figure in the RN. Recently, he has taken a strong stance against the French government’s pension reform and stated that his party will vote against the 2026 budget plans regardless of circumstances. The debate over his attendance at an exclusive event like the Monaco Grand Prix highlights internal party challenges in finding a coherent line between political messaging and personal lifestyle.

The party thus faces the task of maintaining credibility in its social positioning while its leaders increasingly have to discuss personal decisions in the public spotlight. This incident shows how closely political identity, public perception, and voter expectations are intertwined.
