Jordan Bardella and Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies: Controversy over the visit to Monaco

Paris – 16.06.2026: On June 7, 2026, Jordan Bardella, president of the French Rassemblement National (RN), appeared together with his partner Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies at the Monaco Grand Prix. The two were photographed in the VIP boxes, an event that attracted media attention and caused tensions within the party. At the same time, in France, in the Gers department, a commemorative ceremony for the late Lyhanna took place, attended by numerous members of the political left and locals.

Several members of the RN reacted with disapproval to Bardella’s presence at such a luxurious event. Critics described the images as “the height of bling-bling,” as they contradict the typical portrayal of Bardella as a representative of the “forgotten peoples” and a social critic. He was reproached for undermining the party’s social message with this behavior and for appearing inconsistent.

Jordan Bardella defended his decision by emphasizing that personal matters and political commitments must be clearly distinguished. He stressed that commemorative ceremonies take place every day and that his presence at the Monaco Grand Prix has no political significance. The relationship with Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, a wealthy Italian heiress and well-known figure in high society, had already become public in January 2026, when the couple appeared together at an event at the Grand Palais in Paris.

This connection to a prominent noble family had already sparked discussions before. Many observers see it as a break from Bardella’s role as a voice for the lower social classes and from his political agenda, which is often opposed to the elites. Within the same party there are different views: while some emphasize Bardella’s personal freedom and the separation between private life and politics, others worry about a possible alienation of voters.

Despite the criticism, Bardella remains an influential figure within the RN. Recently, he has taken a strong stance against the French government’s pension reform, declaring that his party will vote against the 2026 budget plans regardless of the circumstances. The debate about his participation in an exclusive event like the Monaco Grand Prix highlights the internal challenges the party faces in finding a consistent line between political message and personal lifestyle.

The party is therefore called upon to maintain the credibility of its social position, while its leading figures increasingly have to publicly discuss their personal choices as well. This episode shows how intertwined political identity, public perception, and voter expectations are.
