Paris – June 16, 2026: The iconic Olympic flame of the Paris 2024 Games will once again illuminate the sky over the French capital from June 21 to September 14, 2026. Designer Mathieu Lehanneur created the 30-meter-high and 7-meter-wide structure to produce a fire-like illusion using LED lights, mist nozzles, and fans, without using real fire.
Originally conceived as a temporary installation for the 2024 Olympic Games, the flame was redesigned for further use in the summer of 2025 due to its popularity and positive public response. It will now be installed each year until 2028 in the Jardin des Tuileries to preserve the legacy of the Games and celebrate the values of sport and personal achievement.
The installation is located at the center of the large round basin in the Jardin des Tuileries, a historic garden in the heart of Paris. Visitors can view the flame daily from 10 a.m., with the garden itself opening from 7 a.m. Evening hours are particularly impressive when the flame rises into the sky at dusk. Exact rising times vary depending on the date and weather conditions.
The flame’s return coincides with June 21, the Fête de la Musique, an annual music festival celebrated throughout France. It will also be visible until September 14, the day of the Fête du Sport, a new holiday introduced by President Emmanuel Macron to promote sport in French society.
The decision to install the flame permanently during the summer months was made by the City of Paris and French President Emmanuel Macron to preserve the Olympic Games’ legacy and embed the Olympic values within the city. The flame is powered by EDF and symbolizes the sustainable energy used during the Games.
For those wishing to experience the flame up close, access is free and does not require a reservation. However, it is recommended to consult official websites for up-to-date information on opening hours and special events.
The return of the Olympic flame to the Jardin des Tuileries is not only a visual spectacle but also a significant cultural event that highlights the city’s connection to the values of the Olympic Movement. It invites both locals and tourists to once again experience the magic of the Paris 2024 Games and enjoy the beauty of the historic garden.
