France Ends Partnership with Palantir and Invests 655 Million Euros in Artificial Intelligence

Paris – 16.06.2026: France’s Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced today that the French government is ending its collaboration with the US technology company Palantir. Instead, 655 million euros will be invested in the development of artificial intelligence (AI). With this move, France aims to strengthen digital independence and reduce dependence on foreign providers.

The additional funds come from the “France 2030” funding program, specifically designed to advance key future technologies. The investment is intended to improve national AI infrastructure, promote research projects, and particularly support French companies in the field of artificial intelligence. The government thus wants to establish France as a leading player in the global AI market while securing control over critical digital technologies.

Simultaneously, the Direction générale de la sécurité intérieure (DGSI), France’s central security agency, has decided not to renew the contract with Palantir. In the future, the DGSI will collaborate with the French company ChapsVision, which specializes in similar technologies. Lecornu emphasized that France is not willing to become dependent on foreign companies in sensitive digital areas but rather wants to consistently expand its digital sovereignty.

This decision comes against the backdrop of increasing discussions about the protection of sensitive data and the importance of national control in the digital world. In recent years, Palantir has faced strong criticism in various countries regarding data protection and security. France’s step could send a signal in the European context and encourage other countries to strengthen their digital independence.

Investment in AI is a central component of “France 2030″—a strategy aimed at boosting innovation, competitiveness, and economic growth. In addition to supporting technology, the measure is also intended to create new jobs and accelerate digital transformation in France.

Despite general approval, there are also critical voices warning of possible challenges in the transition from an international provider like Palantir to a national partner that may not yet cover all areas of expertise broadly. Additionally, the switch could initially lead to operational difficulties.

However, the French government remains committed to its line and emphasizes the importance of digital sovereignty as a strategic factor for national security and economic future. The coming months will show how smoothly the transition goes and what impact the new technology policy will have on France’s security architecture.

Overall, this step represents an important milestone in French technology policy and serves as an example for European countries seeking greater control over their digital infrastructure.
