After Repairs, JR’s “Caverne” on Paris’s Pont-Neuf Reopens Its Doors

Paris – 16.06.2026: The monumental art installation “La Caverne du Pont-Neuf” by the French artist JR has reopened after repairs caused by storm damage. Originally scheduled for June 6, 2026, the opening had to be postponed due to damage from strong winds and rain.

“La Caverne du Pont-Neuf” is an impressive, temporary installation transforming Paris’s oldest bridge, the Pont-Neuf, into a gigantic artificial cave. The structure consists of 80 air-filled arches and measures 120 meters in length, 20 meters in width, and reaches a height of up to 18 meters. It was created by 800 people in France and is a tribute to the 1985 wrapping of the Pont-Neuf by Christo and Jeanne-Claude.

The installation offers visitors an immersive experience with illuminated rock walls inspired by European caves, a soundscape by former Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter, and specially created scents by olfactory curator Sarah Bouasse. Augmented reality elements and QR codes add surreal visual effects that enrich the experience.

After the repairs, the installation was surprisingly inaugurated on June 15, 2026, during an Instagram livestream by JR himself. Visitors report a striking contrast between the illusion inside and the urban surroundings outside, emphasizing the intended pause and wonder moment within the hectic city life.

“La Caverne du Pont-Neuf” is open to the public 24/7 until June 28, 2026. Admission is free, inviting both Parisians and tourists to experience the bridge in a new, captivating way.

The repairs to the “Caverne” were carried out swiftly to reopen the installation to the public. Organizers emphasized that the work was done with utmost care to ensure visitor safety and preserve the artistic integrity of the piece.

Visitors who have already entered the “Caverne” praise the successful blend of art, technology, and natural experience. The installation offers a unique chance to experience the history and architecture of the Pont-Neuf in a completely new way and immerse oneself in JR’s artistic vision.

For those who have not yet visited the “Caverne,” the opportunity is now available to witness this impressive artwork before it is dismantled after June 28. The installation is an outstanding example of contemporary public art and a highlight for art lovers and tourists alike.
