Paris – 16.06.2026: The renowned Parisian department store BHV Marais has ended its partnership with the fast fashion brand Shein. The Société des Grands Magasins (SGM) has transferred the operation of the store to the previous management under the leadership of Karl-Stéphane Cottendin.
The decision to end the partnership with Shein was made by the new management as a response to the negative impacts of the fast fashion business model and the related environmental issues. Additionally, Shein’s online sales activities, particularly the sale of products with questionable content, were criticized.
The takeover of BHV Marais by the existing management aims to realign the department store and focus more on traditional areas such as decoration, DIY supplies, and furniture. This realignment is intended to help reconnect the store with its customers and strengthen the original business model.
The decision to remove Shein from BHV Marais was regarded by the new management as a necessary step to restore the store’s reputation and regain brand partnerships and customers. Previously, several renowned brands had ended their cooperation with the department store due to the partnership with Shein.
The takeover of BHV Marais by the existing management takes place in a challenging economic environment. Despite the difficulties, the new leadership aims to successfully reposition the department store and make it an attractive destination again for customers and brands.
