Évian-les-Bains – 17.06.2026: The third and final day of the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains was entirely dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. Leading political officials and representatives from the technology sector debated the opportunities and challenges that AI presents for the global economy and society.

US President Donald Trump emphasized in his opening speech the importance of innovation and regulation in the field of AI. He insisted that the United States was ready to play a leading role in the development and implementation of AI technologies, while keeping in mind the need for responsible regulation.

French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted the importance of international cooperation to establish ethical standards and guidelines concerning the use of AI. He stressed that a global approach was necessary in order to fairly distribute the benefits of AI and minimize the risks.

The discussions focused on different aspects of digital transformation, including data protection, cybersecurity, and the impacts of AI on the labor market. It was emphasized that education and retraining are essential to prepare the workforce for the demands of the digital future.

Another key point was the promotion of investments in digital infrastructures and research. The G7 countries agreed to launch joint initiatives aimed at encouraging the exchange of knowledge and technologies, as well as stimulating the development of AI applications in various sectors.

Despite the progress made in discussions, differences remained, especially regarding the management of relations with China and the control of critical digital infrastructures. Some European countries called for stricter measures, while the United States favored a more open approach.

Finally, it was emphasized that cooperation in the field of AI must consider not only technological dimensions but also social ones. It is important to strengthen social cohesion and ensure that the benefits of digital transformation are enjoyed by all.

The summit concluded with the signing of a joint declaration in which the G7 countries reaffirmed their commitment to develop and use AI responsibly. A timetable for future collaboration and regular meetings was also established in order to continue the dialogue on digital issues.

The G7 summit in Évian thus marked an important step towards global cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and digitization. The agreements reached could decisively contribute to shaping a sustainable and equitable digital future.
