Macron in Iraq: a symbolic visit to Mosul, the former stronghold of the Islamic State

The head of state is visiting Mosul (Iraq) this weekend, the city that was so important for the so-called Islamic State (IS). Journalist Anne Bourse from France Télévisions reports on site about this symbolic visit in the fight against IS.

During his visit to Mosul, the former Iraqi stronghold of the so-called Islamic State, on August 29, Emmanuel Macron emphasized the continuation of the fight against terrorism. “The president will meet this afternoon with the special forces deployed in northern Iraq,” reports journalist Anne Bourse, special correspondent in Mosul.

“The army will continue the fight against terrorism”
“The head of state will reiterate that the mission will continue. The French military will remain in Iraq. IS is still a threat, especially here in the Mosul region, a stronghold of the jihadists between 2014 and 2017,” added the France Télévisions journalist. “Emmanuel Macron assured that the army will continue the fight against terrorism as long as the Iraqi state wishes it. (…) A fight against terrorism that France is also conducting in the Sahel zone in Africa,” said Anne Bourse.
