The automatic warning system for identifying students dropping out has been announced

Paris – 21.06.2026: Education Minister Édouard Geffray has announced plans to implement an automated warning system starting from the next school year, aimed at early detection of students dropping out. This measure is being introduced in response to the results of an internal investigation revealing potential shortcomings in the case of a child kept in a truck in the Elsass area for more than a year. Mr. Geffray emphasized the urgency of preventing similar cases in the future through preventive systems.

The automated warning system will continuously monitor student attendance in classes. If a student is absent for an extended period, the system will automatically issue a warning, allowing educational institutions with appropriate authority to intervene promptly and provide necessary support. The goal is to ensure the safety and welfare of children while timely preventing potential risks.

The decision to implement this technical solution was made after information emerged about a child living hidden in a truck for more than a year. Investigations revealed serious shortcomings in monitoring processes, leading to this tragic situation. Minister Geffray stressed that such incidents must not be allowed to happen again and that better supervision and support for students are necessary.

The deployment of this system has been welcomed by many educational institutions and teachers’ unions. They expect the system to better detect cases of students dropping out or leaving the education system entirely. However, there are also concerns related to privacy and transparency of the system. Mr. Geffray assures that all data protection regulations will be strictly observed and that the system will only serve the purpose of protecting and caring for students.

The design and implementation of the warning system will be carried out in cooperation with technology experts and schools. The system is expected to be operational from the beginning of the next school year in schools. Mr. Geffray called this the starting step for a series of measures aimed at improving student protection and preventing school dropouts.

This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to using advanced technology to quickly identify and provide focused support to at-risk students. The community is also urged to remain vigilant and report to authorities when suspecting cases of dropout or neglect to protect children’s rights.

With the automated warning system, an important tool is created to help protect children from neglect and facilitate their return to school. The Ministry of Education wishes to ensure that no child is ever lost in the system and always receives timely assistance.
