Strike announcement at Stellantis in Mulhouse due to extreme heat conditions

Mulhouse – 23.06.2026: The union Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT) has announced a strike at the Stellantis plant in Mulhouse to draw attention to the extreme working conditions caused by high temperatures. In some production departments, temperatures reach 38-40 degrees Celsius, putting workers’ health at risk. The CGT is therefore calling for an early reduction of the work shift, both for the morning and evening shifts.

The high temperatures in the Stellantis Mulhouse departments have raised concerns among employees in recent days. A union representative warned that in some areas temperatures reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, making working conditions particularly difficult. The CGT therefore demands an adjustment of working hours to protect the health of workers.

Stellantis has already invested in the Mulhouse plant in the past. In June 2026, an investment package of more than one billion euros was announced, of which around 400 million will be allocated to the production of three new Peugeot models in Mulhouse. This investment highlights the importance of the plant for the automaker.

The CGT emphasizes that the current working conditions not only endanger the health of workers but can also affect the quality of production. The union is therefore calling for urgent measures by Stellantis to improve working conditions and ensure employee safety.

The announced strike is part of a series of actions promoted by the CGT in recent months across various sectors, aimed at highlighting situations of distress and inadequate working conditions. The union reiterates the need to continuously monitor working conditions and make necessary changes to safeguard workers’ health and safety.

The situation in Mulhouse reflects a broader problem occurring in many industrial plants during heat waves. High temperatures can not only reduce productivity but also cause health problems for employees. It is therefore important that companies like Stellantis adopt proactive measures to avoid such conditions and ensure staff safety.

The CGT has announced that it will continue strike actions until a satisfactory solution is found. It calls on Stellantis to adjust working hours and ensure that working conditions meet health standards. The union emphasizes that workers’ safety and well-being must be an absolute priority.

The situation in Mulhouse remains tense, and it remains to be seen how Stellantis will respond to CGT’s demands. It is hoped that a quick and effective solution will be found to improve working conditions and avoid further strikes.
