Strike announcement at Stellantis Mulhouse due to extreme temperature conditions

Mulhouse – 23.06.2026: The Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT) union has declared a strike at the Stellantis factory in Mulhouse to highlight the extreme working conditions caused by high temperatures. In some production workshops, temperatures reach between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, endangering the health of workers. Therefore, CGT demands an earlier end to shifts, applying to both morning and afternoon shifts.

The high temperatures in the production workshops at Stellantis Mulhouse in recent days have caused concern among workers. A union representative warned that temperatures in some areas could reach up to 40 degrees Celsius, making working conditions very difficult. CGT therefore requests an adjustment of working hours to protect workers’ health.

In the past, Stellantis has invested in the Mulhouse facility. In June 2026, an investment package of over one billion euros was announced, with about 400 million euros to be used for the production of three new Peugeot models in Mulhouse. This investment underlines the importance of the facility for the car manufacturer.

CGT emphasizes that the current working conditions not only threaten workers’ health but could also affect production quality. The union therefore calls on Stellantis to take urgent measures to improve working conditions and ensure employee safety.

The declared strike action is part of a series of CGT actions over recent months in various sectors to draw attention to existing issues and inadequate working conditions. The union stresses the need for continuous monitoring and adjustment of working conditions when necessary to protect workers’ health and safety.

The situation in Mulhouse reflects a broader problem occurring in many industrial facilities during heatwaves. High temperatures not only reduce productivity but also cause health problems for workers. Therefore, companies like Stellantis need to take proactive measures to prevent this and ensure employee safety.

CGT has announced it will continue strike measures until a satisfactory solution is found. They demand that Stellantis adjust working hours and ensure that working conditions meet health standards. The union emphasizes that worker safety and welfare must be the top priority.

The situation in Mulhouse remains tense, and it remains to be seen how Stellantis will respond to CGT’s demands. Hopefully, a quick and effective solution will be found to improve working conditions and avoid further strike actions.
