Mulhouse – 23.06.2026: The union Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT) has announced a strike at the Stellantis factory in Mulhouse to highlight the extreme working conditions caused by high temperatures. In some factory areas, temperatures reach up to 38 to 40 degrees Celsius, endangering the health of the employees. Therefore, the CGT demands an earlier end to shift work, both for the early and late shifts.
The high temperatures in the Stellantis Mulhouse factory areas have caused concern among employees in recent days. A union representative warned that temperatures in some parts can rise to 40 degrees Celsius, which significantly complicates the working conditions. The CGT therefore insists on adjusting working hours to protect the health of the employees.
Stellantis has already invested in the Mulhouse site in the past. In June 2026, an investment package of more than one billion euros was announced, of which about 400 million euros will be spent on the production of three new Peugeot models in Mulhouse. This investment underscores the importance of the site for the car manufacturer.
The CGT emphasizes that the current working conditions not only threaten the health of the employees but can also affect the product quality. The union therefore calls for urgent measures from Stellantis to improve the working conditions and ensure the safety of the employees.
The announced strike action is part of a series of actions by the CGT carried out in various sectors over the past months to draw attention to grievances and inadequate working conditions. The union stresses the need to continuously monitor working conditions and adjust them if necessary to protect the health and safety of the employees.
The situation in Mulhouse reflects a larger problem that occurs in many industrial facilities during heatwaves. High temperatures can not only affect productivity but also lead to health problems among employees. It is therefore important that companies like Stellantis take proactive measures to avoid such conditions and guarantee the safety of their staff.
The CGT has announced that the strike measures will continue until a satisfactory solution is found. It urges Stellantis to adjust working hours and ensure that working conditions meet health standards. The union emphasizes that the safety and well-being of the employees must be given the highest priority.
The situation in Mulhouse remains tense, and it is to be seen how Stellantis will respond to the demands of the CGT. Hopefully, an effective solution will be found quickly to improve working conditions and prevent further strike measures.
