Paris – June 24, 2026: Dominique Vérien, the representative for women’s rights in the French Senate, has sounded the alarm about the spread of masculinism ideology within France. She positions this movement as a serious threat to public order and national security. Vérien emphasized that these ideologies not only violate women’s rights but also bring about a severe crisis in social cohesion.
The French Senate recently published a report analyzing masculinism networks and movements. This report details the structure and spread of masculinism groups that are increasing their influence across various social sectors. Vérien, together with her colleagues Béatrice Gosselin, Olivia Richard, and Laurence Rossignol, presented the findings at a press conference on June 24, 2026.
Additionally, the report issued in January by the Higher Council for Equality (Haut Conseil à l’Égalité, abbreviated HCE) focused on this issue. The HCE distinguishes two forms of sexism: patriarchal sexism, which hierarchically justifies traditional gender roles, and blatant, aggressive, and contemptuous hostile sexism. These phenomena are deeply rooted in French society and foster the spread of masculinism ideology.
The French domestic security agency (DGSI) recently assessed the dangers of masculinism as a threat of terrorism in a podcast. Matthieu, an expert on right-wing extremism at the DGSI, explained the challenges this movement poses to national security.
Vérien stressed that education should play a central role in combating the spread of this ideology. She called for promoting awareness about interpersonal relationships and mutual respect, as well as strengthening social cohesion. She demands heightened societal sensitivity to the dangers brought by masculinism and enhanced measures to promote equality and respect.
Moreover, multiple French administrative agencies and organizations are cooperating to advance programs countering this movement. Specifically, these include strengthening educational initiatives, promoting equality, and monitoring and regulating online platforms to prevent the spread of masculinism ideology.
Public discussion about the impact of masculinism is rapidly intensifying in France. The report and warnings clearly indicate the need to address this issue seriously and forcefully. Dominique Vérien and others are calling on political and social bodies to decisively confront this threat to protect women’s rights and maintain social stability.
