France confirms first case of Ebola virus

Paris – June 24, 2026: France has reported its first confirmed case of native Ebola virus infection. The patient is a doctor returning from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Upon arrival in France, he was immediately admitted to a specialized hospital and placed in isolation. His condition is currently stable.

The French health authorities have quickly taken preventive measures to prevent possible spread of the virus. This includes isolating the patient and safely transporting him to the hospital. An epidemiological investigation has been fully initiated to identify individuals who may have come into contact with the patient. Relevant persons will be contacted by the regional health agencies to undergo 21 days of home quarantine and receive close monitoring during this period.

The Ebola outbreak currently occurring in the Democratic Republic of Congo, caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus strain, has resulted in 1,094 confirmed cases and 277 deaths since the outbreak was declared on May 15. This marks the highest number of cases recorded within the first month of an outbreak. Officials warn that the actual number of infections may be higher and that the peak of the epidemic has not yet been reached.

In France, the risk of further virus spread is assessed as low. Health authorities emphasize that the Ebola virus is not transmitted through the air but rather through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected persons. Therefore, the risk of infection for the general public is considered very low.

Although the risk to the public is low, the French government is closely monitoring the situation at the highest level. Strict safety protocols have been followed to prevent potential virus transmission. Health authorities stress that the current situation is under control and that all necessary measures have been taken to protect public health.

The French health authorities reiterate that the situation is manageable and that all necessary actions have been implemented to safeguard public health. They will continue to monitor the situation and promptly inform the public of the latest developments.

Overall, this case highlights the importance of international public health cooperation and the need for rapid and effective responses to such health threats. France has mature experience in handling infectious diseases, and relevant departments are working hard to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus.

The French health authorities again emphasize that the situation is stable and controlled, and all necessary measures have been taken to maintain public health. They will continue to closely follow the developments and provide updates to the public.
