London – 22.06.2026: Andy Burnham, the former Mayor of Greater Manchester, has officially declared his candidacy for the leadership of the British Labour Party after Prime Minister Keir Starmer unexpectedly announced his resignation. Burnham, who was recently sworn in as a Member of Parliament, is seen as the clear favorite to s쳮d and is considered a potential future Prime Minister.
In his statement, Burnham acknowledged Starmer’s contributions to the country but also emphasized the need to restructure British society and offer the population hope for economic progress. He focuses on addressing ongoing challenges such as rising living costs, stagnant economy, and creating better opportunities for the younger generation.
Burnham is very popular in his home region and is often referred to as the “King of the North” due to his consistent commitment to public transportation and socially just policies.
